About this place
Situated on the 4nd floor of a building in Ueno 2-chome, Guracche is an unpretentious izakaya where you can settle in with approachable drinks and affordable food. Stepping through the building's door may take a small leap of faith, but inside you will find a warm, welcoming ambiance maintained by the husband-and-wife owners, making first-time visitors feel immediately at ease.
Once seated, the first order of business is choosing a drink. The menu covers draft and bottled beer alongside refreshing staples such as Sui gin soda, oolong hai, and green tea highballs. There is also a solid selection of sweet potato shochu—including Kuro Kirishima, Shiro Kirishima, and Aka Kirishima—plus sake labels like Hakkaisan and Urakasumi, and wine by the glass to match your preference.
A lineup of unfussy small plates provides the perfect accompaniment to drinks, ideal for grazing between relaxed conversation. The host's engaging, lighthearted banter about baseball and the local Ueno neighborhood adds to the laid-back atmosphere. Guracche operates from 18:00 until 5:00 the following morning from Monday to Saturday, closing on Sundays, making it a flexible stop whether you want an early evening drink or a late-night detour.
